If you a avid www.msn.com news reader, you've read the story about Hank Gerbus.
Hank Gerbus is a 77 year old retired gentleman, living down in Florida. I'll assume it's his retirement get away. Any how Hank Gerbus bought his home computer from Best Buy, the store a lot of people love to shop for there Home electronics and electronics items. Mr.Gerbus buys his computer from Best Buy, exeriences problems with his computer, takes it in for repairs since the computer is under warranty still.
When Mr.Gerbus returns his machine to the Best Buy he knows this hardrive contains a lot of vital data, that under the wrong hands this can be a very disturbing problem.
So like anyone who is as concerned abot there identity getting stolen or important information ripped of Mr.Gerbus ask's if by chance he can have the broken HDD since there's sensitive data that could possibly hurt him in the future.
The Best Buy salesman tells Mr.Gerbus that being that the item is under warranty, that anything removed from the machine is sent back to the manufacturer per warranty policies, Mr.Gerbus asks what will happen to this Harddrive in concerns since it has valuable data on it, the Best Buy Person assures Mr.Gerbus after reading the policy that the drive will be shipped to chicago warehouse and it will have holes drilled into it and disposed of so Hank Gerbus feels more safe about the situation. This Hardrive was replaced back in June of 2005.
Hank Gerbus gets a call atr his Florida home from a Gentleman in Chicago,Illinois and guess what Hank Gerbus soon finds out, this Gentleman by the Name of Ed introduces himself to Hank Gerbus In January 2006 and says I have your old Harddrive and it has a lot of very fragile and important information on it. Hank is very upset cause first off no one has his Florida phone number he doesn't know and this gentleman calls him explaining to him he has a hard drive he purchased in Chicago at a flea market for $25.00 Hank Gerbus's hard drive never got holes drilled in it as per polocies ad his hard drive was sold to someone who evidentally does buying of pallet loads from best buy of non functional hardware.
This brings a whole world of corrupt companies to eyes view. The hard drive wasn't bad, the hard drive never got drilled per the warranty and polocies in the warranty and was sold with vital information on it.
Heres he kick in the groining, Best Buy offered him just a $250.00 gift card as a buy off present. Hank want's Best Buy to shell out money to pay for Identity Theft insurance, under the circumstances I think this is a cheaper way other than going through a lawsuit, cause they did violate polocies and this could of ended up in a very expensive situation for Hank Gerbus and his family, but like corporate America i'm sure they refused cause Best Buy had no comment on the situation.
Hank has no idea where his hard drive was for the 6 months prior to the guy calling him and telling him this, but the gentleman reassured Hank Gerbus that he would gladly package it up and ship it to him. So A+ to this gentlmans honesty and doing the right thing, unlike Best Buy trying to buy Hank off with a Mere $250.00 gift card............SHAME ON CORPORATE AMERICA IN THE WRONG AND CAN'T ADMIT IT. ALWAYS A BUY OFF STORY.
